Ben and Ray
spent a week at this wonderful school, working with two groups of 15
children , aged around 9 to 11 years.
They were taught basic woodcarving
skills, including how to make their own mallet , how to look after and
sharpen both flat and curved carving chisels.
They also learned, and did well,
lots of clearing up !
We installed Six big pieces of oak
around an existing seating area. These were trees around 10 feet high and
two to three feet across.
The kids came up with ideas for what
they wanted carved into each tree and whilst they worked around the base,
Ben and Ray carved the tops with chainsaws (Not at the same time !!!)
It was a great week, very successful
in all aspects, we all had a good time, learned something, shared something,
and left some good work for the future.
This is valuable space for kids - outside the usual - it is also valuable to
us, Ben and Ray , and we feel privileged to have shared it with them.
Since this project -
Ray and Andy Manning have done more work at the school - have a look at the
Schools Projects page
